Whistler to San Diego

Whistler to San Diego

Recently in January this year, the FLOC team took a trip to Whistler to hunt not for designer furniture and craftspeople to collaborate with (although we are always on the look out) but to explore our old territory which we used to call home – and to our delight, Whistler was about to receive their largest dumping of snow in years!  Watching the snow report just got better and better.

We checked into Lost Lake Lodge – a favourite place in central Whistler for 10 days – spending mornings making pancakes with bacon, coffee, before we headed each day into the village either for a full day of snowboarding, or a day just enjoying pubs with hot wings and beer.  Both options were good choices.  We tried every pub in Whistler that served hot wings to give them our reviews.  Our favourite pick (from Bev our amazing mother who was seriously addicted, chose The Brewhouse – we all agreed).

After one of the best weeks in Whistler we headed south stopping off in Seattle at The Little Cantina for homemade chips with guacamole and the best fish tacos around.

Next stop was Laguna and Oceanside for 25 degree days exploring Californian beaches and sunsets with local craft beer – Encinata’s Ale House was on point with great IPA’s.

Heading further South we made it to San Diego – a quick stop into Bradley Mountain for a chat to collect our latest sample bags then off to once again, more food.  The Crack Shack was recommended by the guys at Bradley Mountain – locally raised free range chicken with no hormones or antibiotics in them.  The menu was filled with anything chicken in them – we chose the Coop Devil Burger with another local IPA.

Finally before heading back to Melbourne we stopped at Almond Surfboards to see the latest as well as Sean Woolsey Studio – craftsman of Ping Pong tables and other chair and furniture located made pieces.  Its always great to chat with local craftspeople working in their passion bringing great solutions to the world of furniture.  We couldn’t help our curious selves while on holiday to explore everything great in handcrafted pieces from the brands in California.  We’ll be back for sure!
