Big Corporation Kmart Steals Homeware Design off Independent Brand WOUD from Denmark imported by local business FLOC Studio.

If the world of retail isn’t hard enough, we unfortunately have to come up against big corporations doing dodgy things to claim their own new designs for their homewares and furniture range selling at a super cheap knock off price which then cheapens our own products and designs.

Recently Kmart knocked off a mirror design by the talented Rikke Frost from Denmark designed for a new upcoming brand called WOUD, imported into Australia by local business FLOC Studio. The mirror is called the Verde Mirror which is a multifunctional mirror with smooth curves and clean lines inspired from metal furniture from the 1950’s. A small shelf with cuts for hangers is hidden behind the mirror designed to integrate plants and flowers in your home and to hang your clothes on each side. Use the hooped frame to hang clothes or scarves.

The Verde Mirror currently retails for $889, the Kmart version $20. This is a direct violation of stealing authentic design and claiming it as their own. Kmart recently published at article saying they invest 2 years ahead in their own designs which are in fact designs stolen from local or overseas brands.

Action against large corporations needs to happen immediately in honour to keep design authentic. The economy moves with new and good design – with rip off corporations stealing design independant brands will lose out by having their brands ‘cheapened’.

We look forward to seeing some action from higher places so stealing design is a thing of the past.
